With a BA in Human Rights and Social Justice (Carleton University, 2017), Ashley has contributed to impactful projects that blend creativity, strategy, and communication – particularly in her previous role as Senior Administrator for the CBC/Radio-Canada National Indigenous Strategy during its development and early implementation.
Born in Ottawa, ON (Canada) in the late 1980s, Ashley spent her early life moving across provinces with her family. Her experiences with unique communities aided in fostering a deep appreciation for equity, diversity, and inclusion which would later inform her education and employment aspirations.
Ashley has had the honour of working within integral institutions including the CBC/Radio-Canada, the non-profit Two-Spirits in Motion Society (2SiMS), and Carleton University.
Throughout her career, Ashley has worked with clients across Canada, honing her skills and focusing on growing as a professional and small business owner. Her artistic work has been featured at the Carleton University Art Gallery, the John B. Aird Gallery in Toronto, and in the online publication These Pills Don’t Come In Our Colour, among others.
As a trans, intersex woman, Ashley’s personal experiences with employment discrimination and prejudice have translated into underscoring the need for authenticity in conversations surrounding identity, status and proximity – with particular relevance given to Indigenous Peoples, their Cultures and right to self-governance. For these reasons, Ms Grenstone has distanced herself from identifying as having Indigenous ancestry while independently researching her connections to community – with the expressed objective of recording and addressing any contributions to Indigenous Identity Fraud.
Ashley’s mission is to end the use of children in armed conflict, addressing the various roles children play in supporting and/or engaging in warfare. Her work also explores the less conventional ways children globally are impacted and involved in these crises.
The origin of Ashley Grenstone Ltd.
This story begins in 2009 at the start of an education in Product and Visual Design from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This period of fine arts and design refinement would lead to her continued work in the field over the following 15+ years and generate a diverse portfolio and list of clients for what would be one day known as Ashley Grenstone Ltd. …

Over the next six years Ashley would complete 3/4 years of her program at NSCAD; move back to Ontario with her family; register her first official small business ‘Grenstone Rising’ in 2015 and graduate with a BA in Human Rights and Social Justice in 2017.
From 2015 to 2020 Ashley strived towards delivering exceptional graphic design services.
Quickly the needs of clients would take Ashley Grenstone outside of graphic design services and lead to a focus on custom art products and services in an number of mediums/styles through the creation of her second small business ‘Ashley Grenstone Arts’. Additionally the site served as a Fine-Arts Portfolio for future potential clients and employers.
Perhaps a reflection of the significant changes to our physical and digital landscapes as a consequence of the 2020 global Covid-19 Pandemic, Ashley experienced an increase in the need for digital services and contracts. As a result, there was an increased need for a unified, singular identity and this formed the first informal steps towards merging the two existing small businesses.
In early 2022, Ashley achieved a long-sought after full-time permanent employment opportunity with benefits, allowing her to achieve a level of financial stability previously out of reach to her, and she used that time to focus on her role and responsibilities, while working on the development of Ashley Grenstone Ltd. over the next 2.5 years.
As of September 2024 Ashley has been able to rework her existing website, fully merging her prior small businesses into a reimagined ‘Nexus’ of brands each with their own identity, services and roles to play in supporting the mission of the newly formed ‘parent company’ that is today known as Ashley Grenstone Ltd.
